DINAcon Awards Nominee

Gesellschaftsmonitoring COVID-19

Project Category: »Open-Government« Award

With the aim of grasping the effects of the Corona crisis on society from the outset, the Statistical Office of the Canton of Zurich, together with other administrative offices and partners, has set up a society monitoring system from mid-March 2020. Since then, the monitoring contains daily updated datasets, which are made available to the public as OGD in machine-readable form for free further use. In the course of the pandemic, these datasets have become increasingly important, as they could and can be used to quantify the economic and societal impact of the authorities' measures and recommendations to combat the pandemic and thus provide a basis for evidence-based decision-making. The realization of the monitoring was proof of the ability of government agencies to adapt immediately to extraordinary circumstances.
